Sponsorship: State Parks Fair | Cal Parks

Since 2003, Park Advocacy Day has activated our partners and influenced policymakers to support our positions on legislative measures and the budget. For the 20th annual event, California State Parks Foundation will use its platform to educate a wider audience of legislative members, staff, and the public. The event will be held in Sacramento on Tuesday, May 17, with over 100 advocates projected to attend.

In addition to traditional legislative advocacy day activities, California State Parks Foundation is planning to hold a State Parks Fair on the Capitol lawn during the afternoon. The focus of this educational event will be booths highlighting our goals for parks, featuring partners from across the state doing in-the-field work. Booth themes will include:

  • Climate resiliency: Helping California’s state parks adapt to the impacts of climate change.

  • Equitable access: Giving all Californians access to the positive impact parks have on health, happiness, and quality of life.

  • Honoring history and culture: Celebrating the wisdom, contributions, and experiences of everyone who has called California home.

  • Protecting wildlife and nature: Stewarding plants and animals in California state parks for future generations.

  • Park experiences: Ensuring state park visitors have meaningful and relevant experiences while visiting their parks, leading to a lifelong connection.

  • Park funding: Advocating so that California state parks have the necessary funding to reach their full potential.

The expo will bring state parks to life, acquainting visitors with this incredible park system and helping them understand the importance of protecting these special places. Visitors—members of the public, legislative and executive branch staff, and elected officials—will leave with a deeper understanding of the significant role all Californians can play in protecting and stewarding parks.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Californians flocked to their parks like never before, many exploring these places and the activities and benefits they offer for the very first time. Park visitors came away with a renewed appreciation for nature and outdoor activities. This moment created an opportunity to amplify the importance of investing in these public resources so that they will continue to benefit current and future generations.
