California’s state parks face complex challenges —  from climate change to equity gaps in access. At California State Parks Foundation, we respond with research and reports that bring these issues into focus and point toward solutions. Our goal is to provide credible, accessible resources that educate the public, guide decision makers, and inspire park supporters to get involved. 

From access and equity platforms to climate resilience reports and studies on nonprofit partnerships, our publications help chart a path forward for state parks. By sharing knowledge and elevating diverse perspectives, we build broader awareness and mobilize Californians to take action — strengthening the case for protecting and investing in parks for generations to come.

Climate Report

Our report, Building a Climate-Resilient California State Park System, highlights the impacts of climate change on state parks and offers strategies to build resilience. It raises awareness of how climate threats affect beloved places and communities, and equips park supporters with the knowledge to push for urgent climate action.

Codifies in statute the Department of Parks and Recreation's authority to work with the California State Library in delivering the California State Library Parks Pass.

Conservation: the Monterey Bay Area Stewardship Authority (Pellerin)

This bill would establish the Monterey Bay Area Stewardship Authority, a regional entity to raise and allocate public and private funds for restoring, enhancing, protecting, engaging in long term stewardship, and improving access for the enjoyment of natural and working lands in the Counties of Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz.

California Indian Heritage Center support organization (Ramos)

This bill would authorize the department to enter into an agreement with a California Indian Heritage Center support organization to create a collaborative partnership between California Native American tribes and the department to in support of the California Indian Heritage Center.
