JOB DESCRIPTION:
With a rich history spanning more than five decades, California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) champions the cause of California state parks, ensuring their protection and preservation for the greater good. By collaborating with park partners and dedicated park staff, as well as engaging policymakers in Sacramento, we actively address the challenges faced by our beloved parks. It is an exciting time for the organization as we recently released our 2024-2027 strategic plan, setting the path for continued growth. California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) seeks an experienced, full-time Marketing Assistant to join our team to support daily execution and management of social media channels to grow brand awareness, introduce our organization to new audiences, and inspire the public to take action with our organization. Reporting to the Associate Director, Marketing and working collaboratively with staff across the organization on teams including programs and development, this role will lead the organization's social media presence on all platforms, including content development, community engagement, and analytical analysis. The Marketing Assistant will support communications and campaigns that reach a variety of audiences, including the general public, donors, members, volunteers, funders, policymakers, activists, and the media.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Social Media Content Production and Channels Oversight (50%):
- Content production: Develop original, compelling content for social media channels. Tasks include recommending content and participating in monthly planning meetings, drafting social media copy, taking photos or sourcing photos, taking video and creating reels, identifying hashtags and tags (@ or place tags), proofreading or editing other content to translate to be used on social media
- Content intake: Identifying great social media content from others within the organization and project managing the creation and execution of that content on social media. Tasks could include monitoring #missionmoments on slack, managing a social media request process on Slack, and creating posts as assigned.
- Engagement campaigns: Develop content for and project manage the execution of engagement campaigns, including the annual photo contest. Content needs include social media promotional posts, paid ads, Woobox programming, and quiz content. Execute campaigns and support results analysis.
- Content Posting: Own the accurate and timely posting of all content both via Hootsuite and natively in-platform as necessary.
- Platform Management: Stay apprised of best practices and updates to social media platform functions, performance, and user trends. Use knowledge and insights to recommend updates, new strategies, or changes to processes and standards.
Community Management (30%):
- Customer Service: Provide daily customer service support for an online community of 200,000+ social media followers, responding to questions and moderating posts using approved processes and templates
- Process Improvement: Track trends in questions, comments, and level of community activity. Make recommendations for improved processes, updated templates, or new systems and standards to better engage the community.
- Community Engagement: Perform daily tasks to engage the community (reposting, responding, liking, sharing content, etc.) Foster relationships with organizational partners or key stakeholders as necessary.
- Influencer and viral marketing: Support campaigns and content creation that inspires social followers to spread the word, leveraging tools such as Social Press Kit. Develop and implement content for these campaigns, project manage execution, analyze results, and synthesize learnings for the future.
- Follower count growth: Monitor and grow social media follower counts as determined by organizational priorities. Execute new techniques to better engage followers.
Analytics (10%):
- Reporting: Manage and oversee the production of monthly and quarterly analytics reports for social media. Manage and oversee additional analytics reviews as necessary for specific platforms or campaigns.
- Innovation: Create and implement recommendations to improve performance as necessary. Identify opportunities to better engage new and current communities on across social media by piloting new campaigns, content formats, targeting, etc.
Additional Responsibilities (10%)
- Content creation: Write and/or edit content – both written and visual – as needed in support of activating the organization’s annual content calendar and storytelling strategy.
- Contribute towards other marketing and membership projects as needed
- Administrative and other duties as needed or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Commitment to California State Parks Foundation’s mission and Justice, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity initiatives.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
- 1+ years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, or nonprofit development, with social media management experience.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong written and oral communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups
- Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations
- Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Slack, Asana, email management platforms, website management platforms, and social management platforms
- Able to work at a computer for long periods of time, work in and move across an office setting, communicate with colleagues and constituents, and occasionally move items up to 25 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Willing to travel and/or attend events across California, sometimes on weekends or evenings, as necessary.
- Valid California driver license.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This is a temporary full-time, non-exempt position @ 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for any work completed up to 40 hours a week is $28 - $33 per hour. You may also be eligible for overtime (any work above 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week), and your overtime rate is $42 - $49.50/hour. You may also be eligible for double time, and your double time rate will be $56 - $66/hour. Regular, overtime and double overtime are pursuant to state, federal and the Organization’s guidelines and must be approved by your Supervisor.
