Don’t know what to do with your old vehicle? Donating it is easy, tax-deductible, and the pick-up is free!  

Your donated vehicle will help us continue to protect, improve, and advocate for all 280 state parks, beaches, and historic sites in California. We accept cars, motorcycles, boats, RVs, farm machinery, and more. Vehicles do not require a smog certificate or safety inspection, and do not need to be running.  Any questions?   • The donation process is easy and there are no costs to the donor. 
  • The proceeds of your vehicle sale will be used by California State Parks Foundation to protect and preserve California’s state parks.  
  • Vehicle donations are tax-deductible, and you could reduce your taxable income when taxes are itemized. 
  • Donating skips the costs and hassles associated with selling a car, like paying for advertising and insurance, or for car repairs to keep your car in running condition while you wait for a buyer. 
  • Donating also avoids the costs associated with keeping a car, such as registration, insurance, car repairs, and more.

Donated vehicles are sold by CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services), a registered 501(c)(3) that specializes in car donations for nonprofits. CARS works with a large network of nationwide and independent suppliers to sell the vehicle and maximize donation proceeds. This includes analyzing vendor pricing and performance on a regular basis to improve the process and ensure the best possible return for California State Parks Foundation and to maximize your tax benefit.  

Once you have completed the vehicle donation form online or over the phone with a CARS representative, a licensed tow company will pick up your vehicle at a time convenient for you. The entire sale process can take approximately 4-12 weeks. The net cash proceeds from your generous vehicle donation are sent to California State Parks Foundation within five business days upon the receipt of the sale. 

We strive to accept all types of donated vehicles (running or not) including cars, trucks, trailers, boats, RVs, motorcycles, campers, off-road vehicles, planes, heavy equipment, farm machinery, and most other motorized vehicles. However, it must be in one piece and towable, have an engine, and be tow truck accessible. 

You will need a current and clear (no liens) title for us to accept your donation. Additionally, a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability (NRL) is required for the donor to complete within 5 calendar days of the pick-up date of the vehicle. When you are donating a standard vehicle, license plates must stay with the vehicle.  

Yes! CARS can provide convenient pick-up and towing for vehicle donations just about anywhere in all 50 states.
