STATEMENT ON APPOINTMENT OF QUINTERO TO DIRECTOR OF THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION

California State Parks Foundation congratulates Armando Quintero on his appointment to Director of the California Department of Parks and Recreation by Governor Newsom today.

“Newly appointed Director Quintero has a deep background in parks and conservation, and a reputation for being a thoughtful and collaborative leader,” said Rachel Norton, Executive Director of California State Parks Foundation. “He joins California State Parks at a moment of tremendous opportunity and tremendous challenge – Californians are enjoying their state parks in huge numbers as a respite from the pandemic, but some communities have more access than others. Our beloved parks are also facing budget cuts and impacts from climate change. We are looking forward to working with him on all of these issues.”

“Outgoing Director Lisa Mangat has done an incredible job leading California’s state parks through a time of change and transformation, and on behalf of the Board and Staff of California State Parks Foundation I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks for all of the hard work she has done. Her efforts have truly put state parks on the path to a brighter future,” Ms. Norton added.
