2016 Park Enrichment Grants

Thanks to the generous support of CSPF members and donors, businesses and foundations, Park Enrichment Grants have been awarded to advance excellence in California's 280 state parks. We have awarded over $1.3 million to state parks and park partners, which has helped to:

  • Connect the next generation stewards to the outdoors and state parks
  • Utilize technology to support and enhance the visitor’s experiences
  • Rehabilitate historical buildings
  • Restore habitats and monitor wildlife
  • Preserve cultural treasures for future generations
  • Build leadership for park partners
  • Engage new park visitors

2016 Park Enrichment Grants

Angel Island Conservancy
$6,000 for installing self-help kiosks
State Park: Angel Island State Park

Anza-Borrego Foundation
$6,420 for free weekend events at the park
State Park: Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Bear Yuba Land Trust
$6,420 for completing a long-term bird monitoring station
State Park: Empire Mine State Historic Park

Benicia State Parks Association
$5,050 for installing a welcome panel or orientation map at the park entrance
State Park: Benicia State Recreation Area

California Department of Parks and Recreation - Colorado Desert District
$5,000 for an intensive study examining the invasive gold-spotted oak borer beetle
State Park: Cuyamaca Rancho State Park

California Department of Parks and Recreation - Santa Cruz PORTS
$1,970 for the PORTS distance learning program
State Park: Año Nuevo State Park, Natural Bridges State Beach

California State University, Northridge
$5,000 for the Re/Connecting People with Parks project
State Park: Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, Placerita Canyon State Park, and Topanga State Park

Central Coast State Parks Association
$5,000 for educational panels throughout the park
State Park: Pismo State Beach

Chino Hills State Park Interpretive Association
$2,000 for durable informational signs for the recently restored native plant garden

Elkhorn Slough Foundation
$5,000 for restoring a half acre of sand dune and marsh habitat at Moss Landing State Park
State Park: Moss Landing State Beach

Environmental Charter Schools
$7,500 to provide local families and community members with monthly day trips to experience Los Angeles area state parks
State Park: Dockweiler State Beach, Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, and Los Angeles State Historic Park

Foundation for the Preservation of the Santa Susana Mountains
$7,500 to install permanent vaulted toilets at two trailheads to better serve park visitors
State Park: Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park

Friends Of Mt Tam
$7,500 to host ranger and bilingual docent-led hikes and educational activities in Spanish
State Park: China Camp State Park, Mount Tamalpais State Park, Olompali State Park Samuel P. Taylor State Park, and Tomales Bay State Park

Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park
$3,000 to highlight Friends of Palomar Mountain State Park’s important work and promote Palomar Mountain State Park

High Tech Elementary
$5,000 to connect students ranging in age from 5 to 12 and their families in overnight, full-day, and virtual hiking, biking, camping, and environmental stewardship outings at local state parks
State Park: Border Field State Park, Anza-Borrego State Park, Silver Strand State Beach, Crystal Cove State Beach, Cuyumaca Rancho State Park, Torrey Pines State Beach

Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association
$7,500 to address the issues of unpremitted group gatherings, illegal camping and off-road vehicle activities, and develop a long term sustainable plan for the park
State Park: Sinkyone Wilderness State Park

Latino Outdoors (Community Initiatives Fiscal Sponsor)
$5,000 to foster a deep connection with nature and environmental stewardship in families through a series of state park visits and overnight camping trips
State Park: Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve (SNR), Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, Leo Carrillo State Park, Malibu Creek State Park, Topanga State Park, and Will Rogers State Historic Park

Los Angeles Audubon Society
$5,000 to connect the next generation of students to parks through an enriching nature and science experience for middle school students from local under-served communities
State Park: Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area

Sempervirens Fund
$7,500 for installing interpretive panels at the park’s new entrance that include helpful information about the park, in multiple languages
State Park: Castle Rock State Park

Sonoma County Trails Council
$5,000 for an ongoing stewardship program to repair and maintain a favorite park trail
State Park: Trione-Annadel State Park

Valley of the Moon Observatory Association (Robert Ferguson Observatory)
$950 to showcase the significance of the new telescope installed in the West Wing of the Robert Ferguson Observatory
State Park: Sugarloaf Ridge State Park

Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks
$5,000 for installing wooden platforms in three rooms in the adobe
State Park: Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park
