Earth Day 2009 Restoration & Cleanup Saturday, April 25, 2009
In 1998, the CSPF developed its Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup program to engage Californians of all ages and demographics in environmental improvement projects in their communities. It is also an opportunity to educate people about behaviors that will help sustain our planet for future generations. Statewide, thousands of volunteers plant trees, restore trails and wildlife habitat, and clean up beaches and park lands. Millions of others learn about simple things that can be done every day to protect our precious natural resources.

Earth Day in California's state parks was a resounding success! Approximately 3,600 volunteers participated in activities at 29 sites throughout California. About 2,900 native trees and plants were planted, and many tons of non-native plants removed. Some 14 miles of trails were restored, and over 600 bags of trash and nearly 100 bags of recycling were collected.
Once again sponsors for the event were fantastic. PG&E was the Presenting Sponsor for numerous sites across central and northern California. But many others donated valuable support, funds, and in-kind contributions, including Edison, Chevron, Oracle, Albertsons, Earthgrains, Coca Cola, Stater Bros and Virgin America.
This 12th Annual Earth Day event was a lot of fun and we appreciate everyone’s support and enthusiasm for this one-of-a-kind event. See you next year!
Here is a list of the project sites that participated.
