Discover a new beach, mountain, trail, or historic park by volunteering with us this summer. Our volunteer teams would love your help with hands-on maintenance and habitat restoration projects across the state. The upcoming workday at Mount San Jacinto (July 13) includes FREE CAMPING on Friday and Saturday nights. Many of our summer projects are family friendly, too!
Please visit our website for a calendar of upcoming workdays and our Flickr page for examples of Park Champions in action! Hope to see you at a workday soon.
We are pleased to award 16 new grants this week totaling $320,000 to several organizations that are working to support underfunded state parks in California. These Park Partnership Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that have entered into agreements with the California Department of Parks and Recreation to either operate or support operations of a particular state park.
See the grants we awarded.
This funding will go to support a variety of activities ranging from critical safety repairs at visitor centers and campgrounds, to the installation of automatic pay station machines to capture more revenues for our parks, to expanding new interpretive programming for park visitors.
Our Golden Poppy Awards Gala on June 8 at Will Rogers State Historic Park was a fabulous success. We had 350 guests join us to celebrate our state parks, and together we were able to raise over $450,000 to protect and advocate for our state parks!
We were pleased to present Golden Poppy Awards to our worthy honorees: Peter Mullin, the City of Oxnard, the County of Ventura, the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation, and the Thomas J. Long Foundation for their work protecting our parks. Their efforts will allow us to provide critical support that our parks deserve.
See photos of the event in the photo gallery on our Facebook page!
Thank you to all those who joined us for an evening under the stars.

Are you passionate about art and nature conservation? Paint the Parks is a great opportunity to participate in both.
Paint the Parks provides complimentary links to artists' websites, using pages that feature their parks paintings worldwide. Participating artists donate a minimum of 10% from the sale of their parks paintings to the respective state and national park associations, or a park-related program of their choice.
When patrons purchase from participating artists worldwide, in addition to owning beautiful original art, they also demonstrate a commitment to conserving these precious sanctuaries worldwide.
Visit painttheparks.com to join the quest to paint and preserve our parks.
