“State Parks are Great Places” Expo to Highlight Unique Features About State Parks


California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) and representatives from nonprofit organizations and businesses that support state parks and hold activities in state parks (A list of contacts for the expo as at the bottom of this advisory).


An expo of featuring of activities, information, and images of state parks along the pedestrian walkway on the North Steps of the Capitol to bring attention to California’s state parks, as part of CSPF’s “State Parks are Great Places” Campaign. Activities during the expo will include butter-churning, kayaking demonstrations, musical performances, and solar astronomy lessons. Giveaways at the expo will include park information and materials, as well as food samples – fresh butter, petit four “wedding cake” samples, and popcorn. Campaign themes that will be featured include:

  • Be Among Giants
  • See a Star (ACTIVITY: Solar astronomy lesson)
  • Time Travel (ACTIVITY: Butter churning and interpretive talk)
  • Break a Leg (ACTIVITY: Musical performances & food giveaway)
  • Float Your Boat (ACTIVITY: Kayaking demonstration)
  • Tie the Knot (Food giveaway)

  • Eat Your Heart Out
  • Go the Distance

As part of CSPF’s Twelfth Annual Park Advocacy Day, and to commemorate this year as celebrating the 150th anniversary of the state park system, CSPF is highlighting some of the more unique ways in which state parks are enjoyed by Californians and visitors.


  • 12 oversized posters (5 ft x 3 ft each) with public-submitted photos for each of the expo themes
  • Solar telescope & explanation
  • Sea kayak & demonstration
  • Expo participants in period costume, churning butter
